What we offer
Free guides for everyone, and one optional paid session
Almost everything GreenValley does is free and always will be. If you only ever read the guides, you are using this site exactly as intended. The paid option below exists because some readers ask us to walk through their own research method with them, and that work takes time.
GreenValley is a publisher, not a licensed adviser. Our paid work is education about how to research a company from its own public disclosures. It does not include securities recommendations, portfolio reviews, or any opinion on what you should buy, sell or hold. We have no Australian Financial Services Licence, and we do not provide financial product advice.
Included free, with no account and no paywall
- Every guide and explainer Company report guides, market structure explainers, industry analysis and strategy concepts. Free to read, free to link to, no registration and no email address required.
- Worked examples you can check Where we calculate something, the figures and the arithmetic are shown so you can reproduce it against the same source document.
- Corrections and answers to reader mail Write to us about any published claim. You will get a reply, and confirmed errors are corrected on the page with a dated note.
Optional paid: research-education consultation
A one-on-one session on how to study a listed company using documents the company itself publishes. The subject is method, not outcome. We look at how you currently approach a company's annual report and financial statements, identify where your reading is likely to miss something that matters, and leave you with a documented approach you can run on any company afterwards.
What a session is actually like
A working session, not a lecture. You describe how you currently work through a company's disclosures and we go through it with you, identifying the steps where a figure is most likely to be misread and where a company's own presentation can make a number look better than the underlying business.
You will need your own documents and a pen. We will not ask what you own, what you paid, or how much you have invested — none of that is needed to teach a reading method.
This is for you if
- You read company reports already, but you are not confident you are reading the right parts of them.
- You want a repeatable method of your own, not an ongoing relationship or a feed of opinions.
- You can show us how you currently work, including the parts you know are weak.
This is not for you if
- You want a view on a specific company, a share to buy, or a second opinion on something you already own. We decline these requests every time, and you would be paying for a session that refuses to answer your question.
- You want your portfolio reviewed, rebalanced or assessed for risk. That is personal advice and we are not licensed to give it.
- You have never opened an annual report and want to start from nothing. The free guides are the correct starting point — a paid session before you have read them would waste your money, and we will say so.
What you provide
A short written description of how you currently research a company: which documents you read, in what order, and one recent example of a company you worked through. You do not need to tell us what you own, what you paid, or how much you have invested. We will not ask, and the session does not require it.
How it works
- Written scopeAfter your enquiry, we reply within two business days with either a proposed scope or a clear decline and the reason. Scope, deliverables and price are fixed in writing before any payment is made.
- Working sessionOne session by video or telephone, about 90 minutes, walking through your method against the reading patterns that most often cause figures to be misread.
- Written method documentWithin five business days you receive a written approach covering the order to read documents in, the figures to check first, and the specific places where a company's presentation can flatter its own numbers.
Deliverable: the written method document plus a marked-up version of your original approach. Timing: typically completed within two weeks of agreeing the scope. Included: the session, the document, and one round of follow-up questions by email. Not included: any analysis of, or opinion on, specific securities, ongoing support, or any form of advice on what to buy or sell.
Requests we decline, in writing, every time
- "Should I buy shares in company X?" — this is financial product advice. We are not licensed to give it and we will not give it informally either.
- Portfolio reviews, rebalancing suggestions, or opinions on positions you already hold.
- Any request involving crypto assets, options or derivatives, forex, or speculative stocks outside our published scope.
- Tax, legal, estate planning or superannuation questions. These require a licensed professional in the relevant field, not a publisher.
- Any arrangement where our fee depends on an investment outcome. We charge for educational work, never for results, because results are not ours to promise and no one can promise them.
- Any request from a company to be written about favourably, or to have critical coverage removed.
How pricing works
We do not publish a fixed price list, because a single number would mislead more than it informs: the work varies with how much material you already have and how complex your current method is. Every engagement is quoted individually and in writing before any work begins. We can, however, state exactly what drives the quote.
| Variable | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Whether your current method is written down | If it already exists on paper we can review it directly. If it exists only in your head, part of the first session is spent extracting it before we can assess it. |
| Session only, or session plus written document | The written method document is substantial work; a live session on its own costs less. |
| Number of markets you follow | Reading Australian reporting is one skill set. Following United States or United Kingdom filings as well means covering different reporting conventions. |
| Sector complexity | A single-segment retailer presents differently from a diversified resources company with multiple operations, currencies and joint ventures. |
Two commitments apply regardless of the final figure. You approve the scope and the price in writing before any payment, and the fee never depends on any investment outcome.
